About the President of Waliyat
Carole Latifa Ameer is an art historian specializing in Sufi heritage; she is a French citizen and an Indian overseas citizen. As the founding president of WALIYAT, an international NGO, she is developing a pioneering approach to a contemporary reinterpretation of Sufi heritage through the lens of gender as well as its civilizational significance. She offers a vision in which women’s Sufism emerges as both a cultural heritage and a living resource capable of shedding light on today’s challenges while inspiring new models of society.
As an artistic director, she has overseen the creation and programming of international cultural projects, such as the Fez Festival of Sufi Culture and initiatives for major cultural institutions in Paris.
Initiated into the Chishtiyya tradition and an authorized spiritual guide, she serves on the board of directors for the program Islam on France 2, contributing to discussions on Muslim spirituality, its transmission by women, and its place in contemporary societies.
As an advocate for interfaith dialogue, she is co-author of Les Dormants d’Éphèse au Vieux-Marché en Bretagne et dans le Coran, a book about the Islamic-Christian pilgrimage initiated by the Islamologist Louis Massignon.
